BEYOND WORDS EXHIBITION, BOOK FAIR AND WORKSHOPS DURING FREEDOM FESTIVAL, HULL

THREE EVENTS AT HULL CENTRAL LIBRARY:

EXHIBITION, 3–22 SEPTEMBER
Between the Borders, Libita Clayton, Theresa Easton, Jacob V Joyce, Rudy Loewe and Nick Norton.

Focusing on issues of slavery and colonialism, sex and gender, freedom of information, protest and censorship Beyond Words presents the idea of freedom as part of a process of public dialogue, ongoing struggle, a rejection of the proprietary understanding of art and language, and a celebration of the challenges that artists can make to the status quo.

The artists have been commissioned from open call to produce DIY publications, zines, pamphlets, chapbooks and other small-scale printed matter. They all use publishing to further their artistic and activist projects, exploring freedoms exercised or yet to be obtained today in relation to historical reverberations.
