The Contemporary Picturesque by Nils Norman addresses two innovative areas of contemporary architecture and design: repressive urban architecture and design (ie surface studs, crowd control barriers etc) and the vernacular architecture of protest culture (ie makeshift, low impact architectural structures such as tree houses and earth bunkers).

The Contemporary Picturesque is one of four publications commissioned by Stefan Kalmár as part of Book Works Projects/Open House 1998-2001. It is printed offset, published in an edition of 1,000 copies, with colour pages, 76 pages, soft cover, 165x 230mm, ISBN 1 870699 43 2, Price £12.00.
